    Ceramics Experimental About me Contact

This pottery collection consists of a story with each ceramic piece playing the role of a comic panel. My goal with this project was to work on my sequential storytelling and to combine storytelling and illustration with ceramics. I chose ceramics as my medium because its something I enjoy working with due to its aesthetics and versatility but also due to its material tangibility and introduction of practical use to my art.

The title of this collection has a triple meaning, first it represents the little hare’s journey, second it reflects my feelings when approaching this project and third its an homage to the series with the same name which was one of my inspirations

    1.  Resting

    Bowl 15x15x6

    On  an autumn day

when the leaves have just started turning yellow

A hare lies in a patch of grass

    2.  The calling

    Bowl 8x8x3

    Suddenly

It rises from it’s deep slumber

feeling the forest calling to it

    3.  Edge of the woods

    Mug 8x8x7

    It stops

just at the edge of the forest

    a moment of hesitation-

    4.  Another world

    Container 9x9x8.5

-before delving into the depths of it.

    it feels eyes following it,

but cannot decide if that feels it with comfort the it’s not alone,

or uneasy at the thought of being watched.

    5.  Fairy ring

    Container 9.5x9.5x6.5

    It delves deeper and deeper,

the nature starts to change around him,

    it feels familiar yet otherworldly,

     things look a little different

    6.  The deer

    Bowl 10x10x6.5

It eventually encounters a great deer,

    it remains silent yet

     its presence comforts the hare

    7.  The moth

    Container 8.5x8.5x5

Eventually it comes across a small clearing,

    there it meets a moth,

and feels compelled to get closer.

    8.  Point of contact

    Mug 8x8x7

It approaches, they seem to have a connection with each other

    Once the moth touches it,

the gates of knowledge swing wide open .

    9.  Full circle

    Bowl 12x12x4.5

    It sees its own body

curled in the same position it fell asleep in, now decayed.

It had died before it’s journey had even begun.
